Irresponsible or Silent Press

Journalists of today entails responsibilities as much as practitioners of other fields. Now-a-days, the media industry continues its revolution for innovative and modern broadcasting performing the four functions of communication which influences people of this world. Hence, there are also downfalls of this industry.

It is usual, in this field, that people commit violations and harm one another. Choosing between irresponsible and silent press creates a dilemma to future media practitioners. Personally, I would resort to being a silent press than being an irresponsible one.

Everyone has the right to remain silent at the right circumstances. Being a silent press doesn't mean that we are inefficiently practicing our field. Writers for travel and magazines is an example of a silent press, yet efficient.

We, as future media practitioners, should always bare communication ethics in everything we do and indulge with. It is not our name that we carry alone. Let's not forget that we represent everyone in the media industry. An act of deviation or violence of a practitioner will always be entailed to every practitioner in this world.

As a media practitioner, it is our duty to do our tasks to the extent of our capacity. Nevertheless, we always put premium on truth for it is the core of our profession. We are the watchdogs of the society. we do not only entertain, rather we also inform educate and persuade people because we care about the society for we are tagged as social engineers.
Deontological Theory is what we practice more in our field, most especially in broadcasting and journalism. We bound to be duty based all the time regardless of certain risks that our job entails. Nevertheless, we should always remember that "there is no story worth writing for." Therefore, it is also our duty, deontologically, to be aware of our definition of work, its responsibilities and of consequences it may bring to our lives.

Upon reflection, listing and ranking our values is quite a difficult thing to do. Because, all we know are our values but we seldom put them in order. Physical, social and spiritual necessities are the factors I considered upon performing the activity. and upon cutting it in half, I felt a bit hesitant for it has never been easy to throw things out of my list. Nevertheless, I chose God as the peak of my list for I know that He drives my life most. On the contrary, I wrote "education" on the last part because for me, it completes my top 5 but should not be marked number 1.
